14th of April 2009, a matter happened in FCM (Faculty of Creative Multimedia) of MMU (Multimedia University) which shows the immaturity of the MMU security management and the Dean of FCM in handling petty issue.
During a tutorial session, the tutor involved had lost his hand phone, there were around 30 to 40 students present in class, several students were out for events after signing the attendance, now the tutor suspected that his hand phone might be stolen, because the last place he left it was on the table.
This is where the security comes in and runs their so called investigation, which includes body search all the students and locking them up in the class room for nearly 2 hours! they did not allow anyone to leave the room for any reason! then they further complicated this matter by calling the dean over to the class room.
The FCM DEAN came and started to scold everyone as if everyone in the class room planned and stole the RM400 handphone! he even threaten that no body will be leaving the room untill the phone was found(even if its going to be mid of the night) or any information of the culprit. one of the student who are very aware of his rights spoke up and left daringly! and the FCM DEAN is threathening to expel him from the faculty!
As i said earlier, this is a very small issue, even the involved tutor agrees that the way the security and FCM DEAN hadled the issue was very imature, they treat the students as if criminals.
WE the students are not satisfied with the way we were treated! We feel insulted! and our pride has been harmed!
Curently this matter has been reported to the high ministry of education and they have sent assistance to futher investigate this matter!
We Want public appologies from the FCM DEAN! WE are students of MultiMedia University! WE are NOT criminals!!
This blog is created to protect the student's right! Dont be hesitate to put your comment here, your words will give us- The student of Multimedia university great support!
Thanks!
Faithfully,
JUSTICE DEFENDER

I was not there at the time, but it sounds awful. I think it would be good if there be a session between students and respective dean, to talk about this issue.
ReplyDeletethis dean is canadian and out of mind
ReplyDeletehe is thinking asian are animal and he is very stupid man that ask us to do every thing even boook siti hasmah and president for our program 7 month earlier
all dean are local just this dean come from hell of west country
hello hell
asian make west develop
the issue really hurt as a student, but we become innocent victim just because of some of students bad behaviors. If anything isn't belonging to us, Never think about it to take or steal instead we can take and call the last number and let them know your mobile is found bla bla.
ReplyDeleteI hope they found the real culprit.
btw once a girl lost her phone (expensive and new one) i realize it by her afraid and sad of her face. she just left the class, and she ran back to class and check the phone, it isn't there, and we ring to her number, phone has turn off.
why ah, why we need others stuff, we forgot the value of bless of a man/woman but we think objects seems color full is bless, Its really Fire, at the next moment the culprit will realize that, and he will never get peace in his heart.

Public Apologize by dean
-
Its sound nice, but we need to realize something, at that critical circumstance he behaved like that, but we may go and talk to dean, and we students have to appoligize for lost of her fone, but we have to give the respect, because we may know as club president/secretary... we face hell preasure. then its really hard to imagine the situation from a dean.
Hope everything will be fine,
-FCM-MC-
I suggest FCM equip all rooms and offices with cctv! This is not the first case happened, we're not supposed to be charged of someone else's carelessness. For my friend whose threatened to be expelled, don't worry! We're ready to fight for the right!
ReplyDeletei think the problem in FCM is there should be cctv camera in every classes. how many cases had happened from stolen PC, stolen hard disk, etc. if we have CCTV camera they don't need to locked up students to find the thief.
ReplyDeleteit is highly unlikely that the dean would behave in such way. even though according to the attitude of many lecturers and MMU staff members it is very believable. we students are being treated without any respect. back in the days people used to respect those who seek knowledge and a aim to better the world of tomorrow. but what can you do when most lecturers have barely a degree and can't take care and responsibility of handling their own belongings. if a student's phone was stolen the student would have been told that he/she should have taken better care of where he/she puts the phone unattended and that it's not MMU's responsibility. just like it wasn't their responsibility that many USB devices where burnt due badly assembled computer's by MMU's STAFF. i respect you for taking action against such things its about time somebody did.
ReplyDeleteMean time i forgot to mention one thing,
ReplyDeletewe have to appologize behalf of the culprit, ( if the theif was a student)
because dean shout behalf the lecturer,(he has to do that) because he is the head of lecturers and students.
it may seems im talking full crap, but that is the reality and justice in my concern.
(for your conviniant, imagine your self from the lecturer, the 400RM fone is nothing perhps, but the informations, contacts on that may value million or even black privacy..
peace to all except the corrupted minds
dear Mohammadislam you are the main reason that MMU or the whole world for that matter does not respect the east. if your still wondering why it is because you are racist, ignorant, missinformed, highly lacking IQ and reason. how do you expect people to treat you with respect when you give none to anyone else.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know that MMU students also being serious bout this petty matter. well, maybe if my handphone was stolen, I would do the same. Do you? Are we so broken that sometimes we get so wrapped up in the complexity of protection and risk that we fail to see the big picture?
ReplyDeleteI am 100% agree with Isa Miguel. Muslims must act moderately. In every situations, in every single matter of our life. Hasbunallahi Waneekmal Wakeel.
ReplyDeletesomeone needs to remind the MMU's staff that this is not school and we are not here to seek cultural and ethnic discipline. We are paying customers who have come to seek knowledge in an area that the choose. now it seems funny when a customer walks in a store and the policy is "customer comes firs" but in a university where we pay to learn something we are treated like this.

ReplyDeletecome on guys
ReplyDeletei reply to shafeek
it is not the dean right to do that
How many phone got stolen IN MMU
and when a phone got lost it is gone ..
and an apology is required from Dean , and every one els involve ,
if we talk in business mind , " we pay him his salary , we pay for security , we pay for everything , so give us some respect back ..
if we talk humanly , why do u suspect all class and scold them , for no reason , are you out if ur mind , why did not he talk and be nnice to them , what he think he can do ,,
third , we all should not be afraid of that , we should face the fact , and get our respect back , and as long as it is a right we have right ,
finaly , the phone was not found , so where is the phone " if the phone found even , that was a wrong way .
and people , please dont be races , the Dean did a great Job to the faculty ..
can some one quote what the dean said i would very much like to know?
ReplyDeletethe way dean spoke was quite harsh,in this matter the lecture should be more responsible on his belongings...we are here to study not be treated in this way as if we are criminals...and for my friend we will be there to support and fight for you!!!
ReplyDeleteOk people, no racism or flaming here, peace. We r all well educated university student, we think rationally and we can interpret. It is such a disgrace that still happens that people are stealing(student or not student)and i am very sorry to the tutor whose hand phone was stolen. It is just very disappointing that we will be treated this way by the Dean. i always feel that I'm in a different world when studying in MMU, no fight here, people with high morality and respect each other, harmony among many different races form different nation...etc. It was unbelievable when i look at the securities searching student's body, and the Dean spoke something threatening. My parent is working so hard to support me for studying here, and I have always tried my best to cope up with everything here. After this matter, my pride, my dreams, and my faith towards FCM are destroyed.Dear Dean of FCM, if you are reading this, please consider our feeling as a student, and I hope you can fix this so that I can still proudly say: I am a student of MMU FCM!
ReplyDelete1. The dean don't have to tell the students in the room that "how come you guys are so stupid and blind that nobody saw anyone took it" (more or less)
ReplyDelete2. Does he really have the right to detain the students there "until any of them provide info on the culprit" (after spot check and body search by MMU security personnel)
3. I don't think he cares about the students since after about 1 hour there, it is found that he was having lunch while the students cried about how long they're gonna stay there as they were hungry, have assg to do, and also have classes in the evening.
4. So he wants to expel an innocent student (who're proven by MMU security personnel and lecturers/tutors) just because he disobeyed the order to stay until the phone has been found?
5. It is the victim's carelessness that caused this issue. If a student's phone got stolen, will the dean come and detain everyone too?
6. Why was the dean so angry at everyone. Why not find the culprit with all the power he has, and channel his anger towards him/her. Save the rest.
7. God bless this faculty.
this is really a very simple matter~ u lost any of your belongings MMU management or MMU security will not be responsible for it, even car parking, you park it at your own risk! then why the big fuss? MMU security does a body check is acceptable still.. did they find the phone? no? then they shud have ask the students to leave and advise the tutor to be careful next time.. why do the dean interfere?
ReplyDeletethey treat us the same everywhere! all this starts from primary school and goes on to secondary school and continues till university! they trained us to be obedient, to just obey the leaders! to never be able to speak up to them! and if we do they will penalize us!
nobody cares? or nobody wanna get in trouble?
This is not acceptable! at all!!
ReplyDeletethey should make an official apology.
Lost a phone is really a small thing. A lot of stolen cases been happening in MMU but the security never do anything also. Even bra they want to steal. When we report the case, they also numb already telling us this kind of stuff happen almost everyday and they cant do anything also. All they do is just write down what you lost and that's all.
ReplyDeleteMMU security is damn lousy, when we need them we can't find any of them at their station or they will just tell you they don't have other security number; they can't call other during their duty. All bullshit!!
Since MMU so rich can buy MAC Book, why didn't they buy CCTV also?
I have a good suggestion! we go to fcm office and leave after 5 min. go back and say I missed my phone here! I have to search everybody!! :))
ReplyDeletethat would be fun!!
We student demand nothing, only but respect that we should be receiving. We are not the culprit you see.
ReplyDeleteif any injustice happen to the innocent student. We should stand up and fight. No worries we will fight for your right.
BTW, he said that we all would be damned to hell because we are said to be helping the culprit.
wow, can a DEAN do that?
Silly , how old r u man to call student stupid and blind.
It is understandable being a Dean is stressful and maybe sometimes the anger just arise making him said that...but he still have to take responsibility on what he said, all the student are hurt by his words. Even if someone tries to have a nice talk and reasoning with Mr. Dean on this matter, he wont dare to do so, what if he simply just got expelled from FCM? While we are supposed to enjoy democracy...
ReplyDeletei was not there during this incident.
ReplyDeleteFrom what i read and the information that i got from friends, this can be called as a serious matter between the dean and also the student. I agree with most of u here, which is respect towards the students. From what i see here, as students leader and even leader for the lecturers, he sure did show something that is far beyond childish behavior. Students are human too and they are about to be an adult. so why cant the dean show us some respect and reach the student like he reach his friend?
and if we talked about problems and hectic schedules, i bet the student also got their own problems and hectic schedules.
TWO WORDS, DOUBLE STANDARD!

ReplyDeleteI once lost my wallet at Grandhall, and that place is installed with cctv.
ReplyDeleteI went and report about it and ask if I could see the video for that day, they gave me excuses about they don't have the power over that matter, and I need to fill some kind of form, and I need to ask other staffs (apparently it's not under their control?)
Sure, my IC and my RM300 is not that important, nor my bank cards and student ID. I don't mind getting new ones, paying RM60 for new ID, go make a new IC and being fined a huge some of money for loosing it, tell my mom I lost RM300 that was for paying my debt back.
Nope, I'm totally happy to do all that just because they don't know how to operate that CCTV. Fantastically fabulous indeed. Go MMU.
wow. this is really messed up. never thought the dean would be so childish and stupid to hold up everybody in that class and accuse them of helping the culprit to steal the phone. that doesnt make sense at all. for someone in a high ranking position like the dean, people would aspect him to be more smart and wise in handling any sort of situation including the one's like this but it seems he is just too full of himself.
ReplyDeleteseriously. the only thing that the security are good at is just giving us ticket summons and clapping people's car. they're ripping us of our money.
Actually.. the dean was just doing his job. The one that everyone should be blaming is just the tutor who lost his phone. He shouldn't have left it in the box where he stores the dongel, he should have kept it in his pocket. AND i heard he was the one who reported the dean for help. Then of course, the dean would say things like that because he is the Dean, and if there is a problem, he is there to just fix the problem asap.We can't blame the dean for acting like that, because honestly, partially he is true bout saying that we students are so self-absorbed with the things we're doin that we aren't aware of our surroundings. That is actually true, but we can't be blamed for that, because we are there to just do our class exercise and leave.
ReplyDeleteBasically, the tutor should have just called the security alone and deal with the problem like an adult. If he really didn't want so much havoc of locking the students in the room, he shouldn't have gone to the dean. If u go to anyother dean who takes his job seriously and actually pays attention to petty problems, he or she would have doe the same thing. Because they just wana get things done and over with. I mean, come on. If ure the dean, then some tutor come and tells u he lost his phone, and he believes that it's one of the students, and asks u to do something about it? if u care, the only thing u could do IS to go and talk to the students, threaten them abit to see if the culprit is stli there and hope that he/she to feel guilty and return the phone, and then ask for a search party. Cuz that's what they do, they get the things done for u so no more complaints. So seriously, it's really just the tutor's fault. What kind of excuse is "i have a very good reason why i didn't put my phone in my pocket, cuz it's tight so usually i cant hear the ringtone. So i put it in the box so i can hear if my wife calls..My wife is pregnant,u see?" Hellooo... isnt there a vibration mode that you can turn on? u can also put it in fullblast, isn't it? If u noe, ur jeans is tight, then why didn't you wear looser pants like slacks or wear a shirt so u can put ur phone there?
it's so obvious that this small matter is really just the tutor's clumsiness.
The dean is actually great, cuz he does listen to complaints from the students. He is angry that respect wasn't shown to the lecturers and i think he is also angry because he had to deal with such a petty case. I bet he must be thinking like why does he have to settle this small matter? give him a break guys. As for the student who might be expelled, i think it's just words. I think it's just anger talking. The person you should be mad at, is the tutor. He handled this so poorly. What an adult.Goin to the dean for a small matter. You should know when is the right time to take out the big guns. Not using it on every problem that you, yourself could have handled.
p/s: mohammadislam... seriously? how does race come to this problem? it's amazing that you're in a university and u still think like that. We are educated ppl...so please, act like one. did you read back what you wrote to check whether it was relevant? didn't it sound or seemed stupid to you? You just made yourself sound dumb my dear.Nuff said.
i agree with you on one matter..its the tutors mistake entirely! but~ Dean.. he showed a very bad example to the student..thus now he lost the respect as a dean himself.. if its his job..then why let emotion take over him self? showing his anger to the student? and letting out words that affect the students there emotionally? what is this primary school for you? why not just just take a bamboo stick and cane them? students problem is his problems.. there is no such thing as big problem and small problem, what?? you only call out for his help when you loose a leg??
ReplyDeletewhat say we do a coup de'tat and bring down the dean...why don't we just go and kick his ass...let us burn his house...let us riot...
ReplyDeleteI think we have to spread this blog among the MMU staff, or spread into the public and let the public see how we are treated here by MMU staff. As for someone saying that What Dean said about expelling student were just words? to scare the student? It is terrible that a university has a Dean who "scare" student with the misuse of his authority man! Student were just fighting for their rights!
ReplyDeleteFrom what I heard, the Minister of Education already aware of this matter and if action taken on any innocent student, the Ministry will take their action too.
We are all human, we all doing wrong things sometimes, same goes with the Dean and tutors.
We have to understand that the tutor was panic after the phone stolen because he is losing his important contacts as a producer, and what if his pregnant wife has an emergency but can't reach him? He trusted his student, that's why he puts his phone on the table, he knows the student since alpha years and get along well with all student, but what have the student done to him? I am really sad about this and feel sorry for the tutor.
It is even more sad that the Dean didn't handle this matter in a calm and rational manner. And the poor MMU security department as we all can see.
Again, we are University student we are educated and we think rationally, so please dont say such thing as riot, or kick his a** or wanna burn something, these totally showing the immaturity personality and uneducated.
As for the Dean, please don't ever underestimate the student of FCM, we are not kids or only assignment freaks. We know what rights we should be given and we know law and we have connectionto the society.
No one bully us, as the justice is always there!
Dear all students from yesterday's tutorial,
ReplyDeleteThe Dean would like to meet with you and have an informal conversation with you all to clear up any misunderstanding and confusion you might have. Please come to the FCM Office today (Wednesday) at 1pm, you can bring your lunch. Attendance is compulsory for those who were "locked" in the room.
Spread the word to your friends.
See you there.
Ms. Siew Wai
whats the outcome of the meeting with dean?
ReplyDelete15 April 2009, it happens the 1st informal conference between the student and the Dean. The talk was calm, friendly and nice. The Dean did look at this matter in a perspective of student; and the student appreciate all the things that he does to develop the faculty. Understanding between both parties has been achieved, and no more misunderstanding. The problem has been solved, the purpose of creating this blog has been achieved.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the understanding of our Dean and fcm staff, we the student have a better environment and mood to study.
From this issue, perhaps everyone has realised the unique of MMU FCM, which the student and staff having good interaction to discuss and solve the problem together, making MMU FCM an ideal environment for learning process.
So, the topic ends here, thanks to everyone who gave their valuable comments.
